Many languages use the same word for ‘borrow’ and ‘lend’. In English they are different:
borrow – to use somebody’s things for a while, and give it back to them later.
lend – to give somebody something that you own, on the understanding that they will return it later.
It maybe help you to remember by looking at these sentences:
· Borrow – You can borrow books from a library.
· Lend – Never lend money to friends. (this is a common belief in the UK)
